Literature Text

pinned up on a corkboard with silver tacks
nestled in pairs
for further examination:
a song and a butterfly,
a storm a fire,
a word amd the sea,
sitting like silent dolls in a row
as you give them motivation,
blindly saluting the first
as you call it the second one's brother,
a weak blood bond known as
kinship.
you steal the most important traits from one and give them to its siblings,
creating a transformation
from priceless nothing,
the notes of the butterfly soar in the wind
as the storm burns, smoke rising
higher and higher
and the word builds, raindrop by raindrop,
smiling down at its twin, at the
metaphor.
A quick poem I thought of while walking from one dorm to another at Andover. I have the original next to me right now. I wrote it on music paper because it was the only paper I had on me at the time.

Enjoy!
